A very common reason to call out an emergency locksmith is people getting locked out of their homes either due to locking their keys inside the property or due to some malfunction of the lock or keys snapping off in locks.
We get a good handful or more calls each day to people locked out of their homes or properties, especially in busy towns we service. With Yale type locks being ever-more-common for their safety aspect of being able to unlock and open the door from the inside without needing a key - and of course the door being able to close locking the person out if they don’t have a key with them - it’s easily done.
It’s always best if there’s someone you trust who lives nearby that can keep a spare key for you such as a family member or trusted friend. You should never leave a spare key outside your property, under the mat or plantpot. If you live in a rental property is the landlord available with a spare key?
If you have a self-locking “Yale” type lock, always check the door isn’t going to slam shut if you need to pop outside. Most self-locking doors have a catch that can be switched to disable the self-locking mechanism.
Always keep your keys in good condition, regularly checking they aren’t weak or about to snap, and always keep your locks in good order, contact a locksmith at the first signs of locks sticking or keys not always turning properly.
Emergency locksmiths like us can be called any time, 24 hours a day to drive over and gain access to the property for you. Either by extracting a broken key or by using picking tools to open the lock and get you back inside.
We will always make everything safe for you once we get you back inside, replacing or repairing broken locks and making sure everything works fine before leaving. On rare ocaissions when a part is not available or a lock is too damaged we’ll make the property safe and secure, returning in daylight hours to carry out remaining repairs.
